EU Elections 2019 – Key Battlegrounds Part 1

After one of the most acrimonious elections the UK has yet seen, polls closed in the unexpected EU Elections yesterday. But with votes unable to be counted until the rest of the EU finishes voting on Sunday night, you might have an elections itch you can’t quite scratch.

YouGov, 23rd-25th April 2019

Who’s Who for Scotland In the EU Elections

The election no one expected is officially going ahead. With a Brexit extension until Halloween, the UK is obliged to elect MEPs to the European Parliament. A total of 49 candidates are standing for 8 parties or as independents, compared to 54 candidates across 9 parties in 2014.

    By-Election Result analysis: Aberdeen South

A high profile move from Westminster to Holyrood leads to an absolutely huge loss for the SNP, as the Conservatives play a blinder of a tactical campaign.

As Conservative candidate and now MP, Douglas Lumsden, is also an MSP for the North East, he will have to resign from Holyrood within 49 days. That will bring in James Adams as his party replacement, as the only new Conservative MSP. This will also make Holyrood majority (65) new vs returning MSPs.
