A by-election saw an Independent keeping the seat in the family, as a son succeeded his late father in a storming victory that left the SNP and Labour in the dust.

The sad passing of a very well respected local Independent triggers an unpredictable contest, with his son seeking to keep the seat in the family, against relatively evenly matched SNP and Labour candidacies.

Our first two by-elections of 2021 saw Labour victorious in both wards – contrary to some on social media, this was the expected outcome! Both wards are now represented entirely by Labour councillors, giving me another opportunity to dunk on how terrible STV is as a system.

Two by-elections, in two wards that have already had by-elections since 2017, with Labour capable of winning both, which would give them every councillor in both. Guys, this wasn’t how STV was meant to go.
