By-Election Result: Kintyre and the Islands 2024

Only the second SNP by-election win of the term will give the party a small amount of comfort following a brutal general election result.

By-Election Preview: Kintyre and the Islands (Argyll and Bute) 18th of July 2024

The sad passing of a very long serving Lib Dem sets the party up for a faceoff against an Independent for a neighbouring ward who only resigned last year.

By-Election Result: South Kintyre

An Independent storms to victory to succeed her father, whilst the SNP and Conservatives slump to record lows in the ward.

A very popular local Independent leaves the door wide open for the SNP, Conservatives, or perhaps even his daughter.

By-Election Result: Kintyre and the Islands

Strong support on his home island led an Independent to make a quick return to the council, having previously been elected in 2017 as a Conservative.

By-Election Preview: Kintyre and the Islands (Argyll and Bute) 29th of September 2022

The sad passing of an Independent councillor triggers the first “ordinary” by-election of the 2022-27 council term. What looks on the face of it to be an SNP-Lib Dem-Independent contest may be less rosy for the Lib Dems if their councillor of three decades has become reliant on his personal vote.

Wards Worth Watching: Argyll and Bute

By-Election Result: Lomond North

The last by-election of the year, and second last of the term, gives an expected Conservative victory in a largely rural ward, where Independents rather than the SNP were their main challengers.

By-Election Preview: Lomond North (Argyll & Bute) 16th of December 2021

The most surprising of our end of term by-elections comes from a last-minute resignation, where the Conservatives seem the clear favourites, with their only real challengers likely to be an Independent.

Argyll & Bute By-Election Results, 18/03/2021

Two very different by-elections in Argyll & Bute gave us one ward where the Conservatives easily won on first preferences alone, and another where an Independent squeaked past the SNP at the very last stage to nab the seat.

For many LGBT folk like me, and especially trans folk, Keir Starmer will be remembered in the same way as Margaret Thatcher: with deep contempt for having overseen a deeply hostile, queerphobic government, which rolled back human rights and set society back by at least a decade.

    Good riddance.

    By-Election Result analysis: Aberdeen South

A high profile move from Westminster to Holyrood leads to an absolutely huge loss for the SNP, as the Conservatives play a blinder of a tactical campaign.

As Conservative candidate and now MP, Douglas Lumsden, is also an MSP for the North East, he will have to resign from Holyrood within 49 days. That will bring in James Adams as his party replacement, as the only new Conservative MSP. This will also make Holyrood majority (65) new vs returning MSPs.
