Poll Analysis: Norstat 11th – 14th of June 2024

Some effects unique to Norstat and the fever of a UK general election campaign makes the Holyrood side of this poll extremely messy. Meanwhile, Labour hold a clear lead for that upcoming election, but it appears everyone’s support has plateaued.

By-Election Result: Tain and Easter Ross (2024)

The sad passing of a popular local Independent couldn’t give any other result except the election of a new Independent, but some recovery compared to last year made this a rare bright spot for the SNP lately.

GE24 Party Profile: Reform UK(IP)

Reform UK, the artists formerly known as the Brexit Party, a spin-off from UKIP, are simply not going to have the impact in Scotland they will in England. They are nonetheless standing everywhere, and worth keeping an eye on.

By-Election Result: Clydebank Central

A by-election arising from deeply unsavoury behaviour should have been an easy SNP win if times were good for them. Since they weren’t, it was instead an unsurprising Labour victory.

GE24 Party Profile: Scottish Green Party

The Greens aren’t going to win anything at this election, being the only non-proportional vote in Scotland, but they are standing the most candidates they ever have for Westminster.

GE24 Party Profile: Scottish Liberal Democrats

The Lib Dems are a shadow of their former selves in Scotland, but the UK’s primary supporters of PR have one key advantage in this election: their ability to play the First Past the Post game phenomenally well.

GE24 Party Profile: Scottish Conservatives

The Scottish Conservatives started this campaign in the odd position that although, like their English counterparts, support was plummeting, the fact it was happening to the SNP too could have saved all of their seats. And then Douglas Ross did something very stupid.

GE24 Party Profile: Scottish Labour

It’s been a miserable old time for Scottish Labour over the past few years, struggling to be heard and slipping from dominant party into third place. All of that looks set to change this election, as the party surges back into the lead.

The scenes we saw in Glasgow earlier this week, as racists took to the streets to intimidate and threaten ethnic minority Glaswegians were despicable, and this afternoon we showed a tiny, outnumbered crowd of bigots that we don't want their hatred in our city.

Edinburgh by-elections due on the 3rd of September. In 2022, Labour beat Greens by 2% after transfers. Given what happened last month, Greens should surely be ahead. If they win, that'd be only their second by-election win ever. Curveball: Lib Dems have a formidable local machine.

By-Election Preview: Larkhall (South Lanarkshire) 9th of July 2026

A by-election in a staunchly Pro-Union part of the country is a huge opportunity for Reform to score a win, though Labour will benefit more from SNP transfer flows.

A messy vote in a historic SNP heartland, where the Conservatives made stunning inroads post-IndyRef, and Reform lead on one of the votes last month. A tossup between all three, then?
