By-Election Preview: Kintyre and the Islands (Argyll and Bute) 18th of July 2024

The sad passing of a very long serving Lib Dem sets the party up for a faceoff against an Independent for a neighbouring ward who only resigned last year.

GE24: Mayhem in the Marginals

Marginality has meant next to nothing in Scotland at recent elections, and so it proved again this year. That caveat in mind for future, what seats ended up most closely run this time around?

GE24: The Headline Results

It’s all change in Scotland at this election, as Labour experienced a stunning revival that almost completely restored their pre-referendum glory, whilst the SNP collapsed into single-digit seats, the Conservatives barely clung on, and the Lib Dems overachieved.

BBS EXCLUSIVE Poll Analysis: Survation 21st – 25th of June 2024 (Constitutional Questions)

Scotland’s been stuck in a constitutional binary since 2014, but is it really that simple? From asking voters about it in a range of different ways, the answer sort of is… yes? It is? Labour may be on track to win big, but their stated position of more powers is easily the least popular constitutional outcome.

Headline here is about Highland's licensing committee but one of these four, Wick and East Caithness Independent councillor Willie MacKay, has also quit as councillor entirely, continuing Highland Council's almost permanent election footing.

Looking forward to seeing the transfers on this one, because RUK + CON + IND RT + SFP is 53.3% for the Right, so in theory a path was there for RUK or CON win, but didn't happen.

Pre-election some had suggested I may have been wrong to have the SNP included in my three-way tossup call; vindication!

By-election today for Aberdeenshire's Peterhead South and Cruden ward. A historic SNP stronghold, in an area that swung hard to the Conservatives then Reform = not the easiest outcome to predict!
