By-Election Preview: Kilmarnock North (East Ayrshire) 20th of February 2025

A second Killie by-election much harder for Labour to win than the first: if their swing there was replicated, the SNP would still win this one.

Poll Analysis: Survation 7th – 13th of January 2025

Another dire poll for Labour suggests Anas Sarwar will struggle to make it into Bute House, whilst Reform continue to surge, and a rebuke to the idea of Alba suddenly gaining.

By-Election Preview: Kirkintilloch East, North and Twechar (East Dunbartonshire) 13th of February 2025

The last of our Councillor to MP by-elections, the Lib Dems are starting a quite distant third, but that hasn’t stopped them pulling off big wins before.

By-Election Preview: Bannockburn (Stirling) 23rd of January 2025

The sad passing of a Labour stalwart with 44 years experience leaves Labour at risk of being left with a credibility-stretching 4 (of 23) councillor administration.

By-Election Preview: Shetland North (Shetland) 23rd of January 2025

The resignation of an accidental and not entirely willing Labour councillor gives voters in Shetland North the option to vote after they didn’t get to do so in 2022.

By-Election Preview: Colinton and Fairmilehead (Edinburgh) 23rd of January 2025

A double by-election arises from some of the most outrageous(ly funny) circumstances, as November’s by-election winner quit the following week.

2024 in Review: Constitutional Polling

Another year, another slight Independence lead in Winter rooted more in what polls are in the average than a meaningful increase in support. Even as it slips down the agenda however, the constitutional question hasn’t gone away, and both sides have much to do to bring it to a conclusion.

2024 in Review: Parliamentary Polling

Another year of surprises saw Labour surge in July, only for that support to ebb away as Reform UK surge for the first time in Scotland and the SNP halt their decline.

2024 in Review: Council By-Elections

Looking forward to seeing the transfers on this one, because RUK + CON + IND RT + SFP is 53.3% for the Right, so in theory a path was there for RUK or CON win, but didn't happen.

Pre-election some had suggested I may have been wrong to have the SNP included in my three-way tossup call; vindication!

Peterhead South and Cruden (Aberdeenshire) by-election, first preferences (vs 2022):

    SNP: 742 (36.5%, -10.0)
    RUK: 465 (22.9%)
    CON: 432 (21.3%, -20.0)
    IND JR: 150 (7.4%)
    IND RT: 132 (6.5%)
    LD: 56 (2.8%, -9.4)

By-election today for Aberdeenshire's Peterhead South and Cruden ward. A historic SNP stronghold, in an area that swung hard to the Conservatives then Reform = not the easiest outcome to predict!
