A bizarre Labour blunder opened the door for the SNP to hand them their worst Scottish defeat since July’s general election.

In a poor day for Glasgow Labour, the SNP improve on their 2022 position after transfers, whilst the Greens reverse a recent trend of slipping in their core city wards.

A potentially knife-edge contest between Labour and the SNP sees the latter making a play to get a prominent councillor who lost their seat in 2022 back in the chamber.

A re-run arising from a fumbled – and thus disqualifying – resignation of November’s winner may be a harder victory for Labour this time around.

Labour secure an easy victory in one of Glasgow’s least-SNP favourable wards, whilst the Greens endure a second surprisingly poor showing in a strong ward on a day they grew in a weaker ward elsewhere.

The sad passing of local SNP stalwart triggers a perhaps appropriately quiet by-election that’s pretty much certain to go Labour’s way, with the Green and Conservative vote shares probably most worth watching.

A Labour vacancy in a ward they won in 2022 should be an easy win for them in 2024’s climate.
