Poll Analysis (Lite): Norstat 24th – 26th of June 2024

This is a lite analysis piece to ensure there is a record of this poll within the BBS archive, but without the full attention usually given to individual polls due to time pressures before the General Election.

Poll Analysis: Norstat 11th – 14th of June 2024

Some effects unique to Norstat and the fever of a UK general election campaign makes the Holyrood side of this poll extremely messy. Meanwhile, Labour hold a clear lead for that upcoming election, but it appears everyone’s support has plateaued.

Poll Analysis: Norstat 30th of April – 3rd of May 2024

The first poll following Humza Yousaf’s resignation as First Minister makes for grim reading for his successor. A buoyant Labour Party seems reasonable, but some oddities here with Reform UK and Alba shares.

Poll Analysis: Norstat 9th – 12th of April 2024

An especially weak poll for the SNP also comes with surprising Labour slumps, with a perhaps rather unbelievable gain for the Lib Dems as a counterbalance.

Poll Analysis: Norstat 22nd – 25th of January 2024

The first BBS Standard Series poll of 2024 brings a new name for an old friend, suggesting a particularly tricky distribution of seats at Holyrood and yet a straight tie on the big constitutional question.

Poll Analysis: Panelbase 2nd – 5th of October 2023

A bruising weak for the SNP continues with another poll where the Holyrood advantage goes clearly to Labour, whilst the constitutional question remains (to nobody’s surprise) stubbornly close.

Poll Analysis: Panelbase 12th – 15th of June 2023

More bad polling news for the SNP has Labour nipping at their heels at Holyrood, whilst also failing to find an SNP lead for the first time in a standard Westminster poll since before the Independence Referendum.

Poll Analysis: Panelbase 28th – 30th of March 2023

The first poll conducted after Humza Yousaf took office as First Minister suggests the SNP losing a significant chunk of their constituencies, including his own, with only the second Pro-Union majority at Holyrood of the term so far. Independence support holds up better though it remains in the minority.

The other by-election today is for Highland's East Sutherland and Edderton. This is safe Lib Dem territory at parliamentary level now so if a party wins it will be them. However, never bet against an Independent in the Highlands.

Two council by-elections today! Pity the poor people of George Street and Harbour, who already went out to vote last week for Aberdeen South. Expect dire turnout, but also don't expect a repeat of that result: this ward is absolutely not in the Conservative bits of that constituency.

For many LGBT folk like me, and especially trans folk, Keir Starmer will be remembered in the same way as Margaret Thatcher: with deep contempt for having overseen a deeply hostile, queerphobic government, which rolled back human rights and set society back by at least a decade.

    Good riddance.

By-Election Result: Arbroath and Broughty Ferry

The least exciting of the three by-elections that took place on Thursday, from a Scottish perspective it's the one closest to (but still not actually) a useful national barometer.
